Prismatic cells
Structure
Prismatic cells consist of a solid, metallic housing in cubic form. Electrodes and separators are stacked in layers.
The battery poles are typically arranged on the flat top at the outer edges. The large surface area specific to the design enables good heat dissipation and the cells can be stacked to save space.
Application
The prismatic cell is used in home storage systems, as a solar battery or for powering electric vehicles.
The prismatic format offers a simple assembly process. Due to the integrated connection terminals, battery packs can be realised relatively easily. Due to the rather larger cell format, a lot of energy is stored. (> 20Ah)
